Týr – Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver 21st August 2019

Tonight was my first time seeing Faroese folk metal band Týr, but they are not the first artist from the Faroe Islands, as I managed to catch Eivør last year when she opened for Norwegian band Wardruna on their Vancouver tour date.

Týr were in town opening for Demons and Wizards, and promoting their latest album Hel, the bands eighth, which was released earlier this year.

Despite being from such a far-flung place the band have some dedicated fans in Vancouver, I was seeing Viking horns (as well as a few whaling protesters) before I even reached the venue, which tonight was the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.

Being the first act on, I was a little concerned for the band as the room was barely half full when they went on. However, their sheer enthusiasm soon had fists pumping, and they went on to deliver a solid show, and were well appreciated by the crowd.
