Dan Davidson

Centennial Theatre

North Vancouver

Alberta’s country rising star, Dan Davidson, opened for Brett Kissel in North Vancouver on Friday night.

Dan Davidson burst onto the Canadian country music scene less than two years ago with his second single “Found”. Such was the impact that the Alberta native some found himself as the top indie artist in Canada in 2016. Since then he has had two CCMA nominations, for Rising Star and Songwriter. He has gone on to win eight ACMAs, including Single of the Year, and Song of The Year, Male Artist and Fan’s choice.

This meteoric rise is not out of the blue however, Dan has served his time as an established rock musician in indie outfit Tupelo Honey, and this time has allowed him to hone his craft, and develop a full-on stage performance, which enthralled the crowd at the Centennial Theatre on Friday night.

The only complaint anyone could have about Dan’s set was that it was only 25 minutes.  Dan was opening for one of Canada’s other country superstars, Brett Kissel. I think it is fair to say that North Vancouver is not a hotbed of country music, but, this did not hold Dan back in any way, and by the second song in, the crowd were already on their feet.

Dan’s energetic performance was a pleasure to watch, and his interaction with the audience, his confidence in his new found musical direction and his artistry will ensure that this rising star will continue to gain an fan base wherever he performs.
