The Alarm

Rickshaw Theatre

Vancouver

Welsh legends The Alarm played a raw heartfelt set the Rickshaw Theatre, Vancouver on Tuesday.

For Vancouver music lovers who have a that have a sense of nostalgia for 80’s British music the last few weeks have been a wild ride.  Kicking things off earlier in the month we had a visit from Gary Numan, and this week has seen two more bands in town. On Monday Simple Minds played the Orpheum, and on Tuesday we were treated to Mike Peters and The Alarm at the Rickshaw Theatre. Whilst all these bands have done a phenomenal job maintaining and building a following over the years, The Alarm has been the band that I have been most looking forward to seeing.

For the past week The Alarm’s Mike and Jules Peters have been slogging through the canyon lands of North America, all the aid of Love Hope Strength’s Get on the List and cancer care initiatives.

Both Mike and Jules have had personal battles with cancer, and LHS was born out of these struggles, and has been helping cancer victims and their families around the world since 2007.

Since it’s formation the LHSF  has taken many prominent musicians and celebrities, as well a regular people to some of the highest places on earth taking the message of love, hope and strength to those who do not have access to the same medical treatments, care and facilities as experienced by many of us here in the west. Having played concerts and hosted fundraising events on Mt Everest and Mount Kilimanjaro, this time the group headed down rather than up with a hike through the canyons of the South West USA.

Through their efforts they have added more than 170k people to Bone Marrow Donor lists, resulting in more than 3,000 direct, potentially life saving matches.  In addition, they have provided hospitals in Nepal and Tanzania with new equipment.

After a bit of a rest and a few shows south of the border The Alarm will be rocking the Rickshaw on Tuesday 30th October – with tickets still available so get them now.

We will have a full review and photos form the show early next week, so watch this space.

The ALARM – RickSHAW Theatre, Vancouver

It is just over a couple of weeks until one of the greatest bands to come out of Rhyl (😊) hits the stage in Vancouver.  The Alarm will be in town at the Rickshaw Theatre on October 30th, as part of the second leg of their North America tour. This will be only one of two opportunities for fans in Canada to catch up with the band, with the other being the last night of the tour on November 15th in Toronto.

In trying to track down the last time the band played here, it looks to be close to 30 years, so this show is long overdue. The band performed at the expo in 1988, having previously supported Pat Benatar at the Pacific Coliseum.

The band are currently touring following the release of the latest album, Equals, which was released to critical acclaim by the music industry and fans alike.

Tickets for the show can be bought at Ticketfly

The latest video from this album, “Transatlantic” was released a few days ago, with the video having been filmed on the roof of the Live Nation building in New York earlier in the year.

One lucky fan will have a chance to sing on stage with Mike at the show.

The Alarm have always been about being close to their fans, and this tour is no exception, with fans having the chance to join Mike Peters and the band on stage for the encore of the set. Each stop on the tour has an auction running, and any winning bid over $500 will also see the winner receiving a hand decorated guitar, which they can play during the encore…

Proceeds from the auction will go to Mike’s charity Love Hope Strength.  The charity, which Mike Peters co-founded in 2007, has the aim of Saving lives – One Concert at a time, focusing on making cancer treatments available to all, and getting as many bone marrow donors on international donation lists through sign up events at music events.  Find out more at https://www.lovehopestrength.org/mission/
