Fifteen years and seven studio albums into a career hovering at the edges of the music business, fighting for a seat at the table, Ron Pope is now in the midst of flipping that table over. It took a decade to become an overnight success. Hundreds of millions of streams, millions of singles sold, concerts packed out into the street all over the world; all of a sudden Ron Pope is part of the discussion. “At the very least, now I don’t really have to give a shit what anyone in the business expects from me. That’s pretty liberating. It’s like ‘Everyone’s making music that sounds like such and such this year’ and I can say ‘Cool. I don’t give a fuck; my fans just want me to do something good and they’ll stick with me as long as what I record is real and honest and full of songs that are worth listening to. So I’m just gonna keep doing what I do.’ That’s the freedom that holding onto my independence for so long and finding real success has bought me” Pope says from the East Nashville office of Brooklyn Basement Records, the label he runs alongside his wife and manager, Blair Clark.
The National Parks
The National Parks was formed by frontman Brady Parks in early 2013 in Provo, Utah. To date, the band has independently released two full-length albums (and a standalone single, “As We Ran”), which together have amassed more than 13.2 million Spotify streams and garnered praise from press outlets such as NPR’s All Songs Considered, CMT Edge, Baeble Music, and Pop Matters. The band’s self-booked touring began in the summer of 2014 and by 2016 the act was filling clubs in every region in the country while also performing at SXSW, Canadian Music Week, School Night at Bardot’s, Musikfest, Snowmass Mammoth Fest, and Make Music Pasadena. The National Parks is currently at work on their third studio album (Places) with the title track set to be released as a lead single in June 2017 via Rock Love Magic Records.
The Heart Of
Rooted in vocal harmonies and acoustic melodies, The Heart Of captures the emotion and imagination of listeners through eccentric story-telling and cinematic songs. With a notebook bursting at the seams with songs, The Heart Of was brought to life in a farmhouse in Bronson, Michigan, where their debut EP was recorded. The Heart Of will release “Empire,” a first taste of the project, this fall while supporting artist Ron Pope on tour in cities all across the world.
