It should come as no surprise that Lizzy Borden’s first visit to Vancouver on Wednesday was full of theatrical drama. Lizzy has long been big on showmanship, and this show was no exception. The band were second on an eclectic bill saw Demons and Wizards first ever show in Canada, and a great opening from Faroese metalheads Tyr.
The band are touring of the back of last year’s album My Midnight Things, their first in 11 years, and I think it is fair to say they were a photographer’s dream, as well as being well received by the fans.
For the first song Borden entered the stage with a ghoulish mask to be quickly replaced by a hypnotic three faced mask, further costume changes saw devils, skeletons, and of course for There Will Be Blood Tonight we had the axe bearing front man slash open his tongue and smear it on the front row…It was all good fun and the crowd lapped it up.
