dwi comments on the single, “Everyone is a few different people in one. The person we are, the person we think we are, and the person we want to be. ‘PHONY’ is a song about spending too much time in that rabbit hole.”
Comprised of 11 tracks, Zoo Life was produced by JUNO Award-winning engineer, Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Monowhales, Nuela Charles) in Port-Coquitlam, BC at Echoplant Sound.
The album, draws on escapism and isolation, serving as a reflection of past experiences. With a penchant for chaos, infectious grooves, and tortured lyricism, dwi quickly sets himself apart from his peers, serving unforgettable beats and hooks at every turn
“Gaming was the first thing I really remember falling in love with as a kid. It was an obsessive escape from everything that was going on around me. I spend a lot of time wondering why things happened the way that they did. Zoo Life serves as a mirror and seeks to gain resolve,” explains dwi.
Born out of isolation when the world suddenly stopped in 2020, dwi, who also plays bass in The Zolas, decided to create something new, exciting, and deeply personal.
Having released his debut EP, Mild Fantasy Violence (Light Organ Records) in 2021, with producer James Younger (Yukon Blonde), dwi’s songs are reflective in nature. They touch on a range of topics, including childhood, environmentalism, addiction, and the world’s political landscape.
